How to Give Back During the Holidays

The holidays are not meant for being greedy and just accepting gifts, like Mr. Scrooge. (Bah!) I decided to make a list of ways to give back during the holidays. It's so much fun, once you get into it, and this isn't just a holiday kind of thing! You should definitely do this year round.

1. Volunteer work

Helping out at a local children's place or putting together meals for the unfortunate is definitely better than sitting around doing nothing. It also helps build character, and makes you feel thankful for what you have.

2. Donate

You know what they say, someone's trash may be someone's  treasure. Go through your closet and pick out clothes, toys, or any items you don't see yourself using very often, and donate it! They will appreciate it, and you'll notice a less stuffy room!

3. Write cards

Something as simple as writing cards does so much! They let your friends and family know how much you appreciate and love them.

4. Care packages

I always feel guilty when I'm in the car, and a homeless man asks for money. Honestly, you don't want to give them money, as they may not spend it on the right things. Instead, make a care package. Put all of the contents in an easily mobile bag.

Here's some ideas to fill it with:
-socks
-toothpaste/toothbrush
-crackers, or food that doesn't expire
-water
-hand sanitizer
-a first aid kit
-an encouragement letter
-deodorant
-chap stick
-mints/gum
-hand lotion
-scarf/hat/gloves

There are so many other ways to give back, be creative! Oh, and only 6 more days until Christmas!

Happy giving! ---Emily: The Girly Girl Department <3

Secret Santa! Shh...

Doing Secret Santa with your friends is so much fun! Not only are you giving gifts, but you can learn more about your person! Anyways, the point of the game is to buy or make gifts for your person and be a secret "Santa." You don't want them to find out who you are! Here, I created a sheet that will help you know your person more and what they like.

Also, comment down below if you printed it out!

My Favorite Clothing Stores!

Here is a list of my favorite stores to shop at and a description of each. Enjoy!

1. Pacsun

This shop is definitely for hipster/tumblr girls. I love this store because of the amazing quality of each item, but it is a little pricey. They have a variety of cropped tops, jean shorts, kimonos, and so many much more! The Pacsun that I go to has a Brandy Melville section and they also came out with a Kendall and Kylie line. Check out their stuff, it's so cute!

2. Forever 21

I'm pretty sure this is on every one's favorites list. This store has good quality and amazing prices! The store is also divided into sections based on your personal style like a more floral area, edgy, boho, and so on. I love the jewelry section! All their pieces are so cute.

3. Urban Outfitters

This store has a ton of different styles like grunge, boho, and girly. Right now they are having a 25% off all sweaters sale! UO not only has clothes, but cute little knick knacks like Polaroids, record players, mugs, etc. S'cute!

4. Free People

Let me start off with saying that this is definitely a boho store. I love so many things from Free People, I basically stalk their website and love looking at their dresses and such. Beautiful pieces of clothing. Although their prices are pretty high, the quality and looks totally make up for it.

5. Ross

Honestly, Ross is an amazing store. They have amazing deals and prices and their quality is very good. Many people overlook it, but there are so many high brands like Micheal Kors, Calvin Klein, and more. They basically sell each item for half, even a third of the original price!

6. Express

The first time I walked in, I knew I would love it. They have stylish clothes with great quality. They are very hipster and grungy. Some pieces are even a little preppy! It's pricey, but if you look in the sale section, there are so many cute things!

7. Wet Seal

This place has great prices and great styles. They have tumblr type of clothes, and so many options. Wet Seal is a good option for everyone. They range from cute tank tops to skater skirts. I think I'm gonna go there soon!

8. VS Pink

Not only does Victoria Secret have undergarments, but they have extremely comfortable clothes! I am a huge fan of their half zip sweaters and their sweat pants. So cute!

9. Hollister

All of their stuff is so comfortable! You should search in the sale rack and you'll find amazing items! I used to have a ton of their shirts, although I grew out of most of them, but they were literally the only thing I wore.

10. Vans

I love their shoes! They also recently came out with a paisley style, and they are so cute! I kind of want the slip on style, but I mostly buy the classic (authentic) version. They are great quality but a little bit pricey. I'm definitely going to purchase more of their shoes and start a collection!

I hope you FALL in love with these stores as I did! ---Emily: The Girly Girl Department <3

DIY Halloween Costume: Elsa and Olaf

I know tons of people love Frozen, no matter what age you are! Anyways, this is gonna be a long, and more advanced one, as I'm covering 2 costumes (Anna's outfit is more intricate). Let's go... Or shall I say let it go? I'm pretty sure most of you started singing the song, I know I did :)

Elsa

You will need:
  • A blue maxi skirt
  • Blue tube top
  • Blue glitter
  • Mod Podge
  • Sheer, glittery fabric (Get it here)
  • Blue panty hose
To make the "dress":

1. On the bottom of the skirt, use the snowflake stencil and apply ModPodge. Then, apply the blue glitter. Do this until the bottom of the skirt is covered. Use Elsa's picture as a reference.
2. On the tube top, apply ModPodge again and dust the glitter over it as well.
3. For the glittery sleeves, I could not find a long sleeve to fit the purpose, so I made this really cool diy! Take your blue panty hose and around the crotch area, cut a half circle to fit your head. Now it is a shirt! Cool huh?
4. Cut the length of your cape from the blue, glittery fabric (it varies for each person).

To put it together:

1. After you put on your skirt, put on your diy top.
2. On top of that, put on your tube top and tuck the ends of the "cape" in the tube top.
3. French braid your hair and add some snowflake accessories!

That's it for Elsa's costume!

Now it is time for Olaf! Winters a good time to stay in and cuddle, but put me in summer and I'll be a... happy snowman! I thought this was hilarious (cause puddle).

Olaf

You will need:
  • White beanie
  • White turtle neck shirt
  • White gloves
  • White pants or short and tights
  • Brown pipe cleaners
  • Black felt
  • Orange paper
  • Stretchy string
How to do it:

1. Cut three black circles, one small, one middle sized, and one larger.
2. Super glue the black circles on your turtle neck from smallest on top to larger on bottom. You know what it should look like. It's a snowman.
3. Take (3) 4 inch pieces of brown pipe cleaners. Take the end and secure it on the beanie by pulling it through the inside to make little hairs.
4. Put it all on and zap!

Congratulations, you have mastered the art of freezing. Haha just kidding, but how awesome would that be? Pretty cool, but this was so much fun to create!

Let it go! ---Emily: The Girly Girl Department <3

DIY Halloween Costume: Lilo

Aloha! Lilo and Stitch is my favorite Disney channel... Who votes to bring it back? I do!! Anyways, even if Disney doesn't bring it back, we can dress like Lilo for Halloween!

You will need:
  • A red dress
  • White Contact paper (a self adhesive paper)
  • A leaf stencil (Google: Lilo leaf stencil)
  • (Optional) Stitch stuffed animal... Pillow pet?

To make the dress:

1. Cut out a stencil of the leaf.
2. Trace it around the Contact paper and cut it out. You can make as many leaves as you like on your red dress.
3. Peel off the backing so you are left with the sticky side and stick it onto the red dress. That's it! Super easy!!

Put on those sandals and carry Stitch around with you, cause you got a lot of cousins to catch!!

  • Green/ olive-y pants
  • Brown belt
  • Black gloves
  • Any black shoes
  • Brown fabric
  • Black buttons
  • Glue (hot or super glue)
To make the belt:
  1.  Cut strips of fabric about 3-4 inches wide and long enough to fit around the belt.
  2. On one side, fold the corners to make it look kind of like an envelope. Then glue the point so that it has 3 edges. Sew a black button on there.
  3. On the other side, cut a slit so the button can fit in there.
  4. Wrap it around the belt and button it.
  5. Ta-da!
Put it all on and there you go, you are now super spy Kim Possible. The belt is optional, so you can always wear the brown belt by itself. Click here for more DIY Halloween Costumes.

DIY Halloween Costume: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

You will need:
  • a TMNT shirt
  • tulle (amount depends on length and fullness.Color of your character)
  • elastic
  • a safety pin
  • black yoga pants
  • felt (also the same color of tulle and length based off your head size)
  • shoes
Here is how to do it:

For the tutu:
  1. Measure the elastic around your waist and secure the ends with a safety pin. If you want, you can sew it together. I'm just lazy like that.
  2. Depending on how much tulle you will use, measure the length you want the tulle to be and double it. Cut as many pieces you will need.
  3. Now fold it in half and place the loop in the inside and take the ends over the elastic part and through the loop to create knot.
  4. Continue until desired fullness.
For the mask (optional: you can also just use a colored headband):
  1. Trace your felt by drawing two ovals where you want your eyes to be.
  2. Now, trace around the circles. It should look kind of like an infinity.
  3. Draw two lines on each side of it. This is how you will tie on your head.
  4. Cut it out.
Now put it all together! This costume is super cute and easy to make, you should finish in no time. Comment down below your favorite ninja! (Mine is Mikey!) AND, for more costume ideas, check out DIY Halloween Costumes.

5 DIY Hair Mask Recipes

Using non-chemically products in your hair will greatly improve your hair growth (see my other post for more hair growth tips: How to Grow Longer, Healthier Hair in Weeks). Anyways, keeping your hair conditioned and smooth is always a good thing, but I don't like paying a ton of moo-lah for something I can create myself for cheap! Here I have 5 different recipes that only need 3-4 ingredients, so create the one that best suites you!
1. The Nutrifying Egg Hair Mask

Eggs are packed with a variety of happy-healthy nutrients that will make your hair shine! They are highly known for their very rich source of protein. As a matter of fact, the protein found in eggs is the highest quality protein you can ever find in any food. Here is a list of different types of nutrients in egg that show for healthy hair:
  • Protein- it nourishes the hair roots which stimulates hair growth
  • Fatty acids- adds that natural glossy shine
  • Potassium- heals dry, damaged hair
  • Vitamin A- prevents hair breakage
  • Vitamin B12- promotes hair growth as well as calcium
Before you make that "ew" face, know that this egg homemade hair mask will give you a healthy boost of calcium and protein, giving your hair a soft feel as well as a lustrous shine. Anyways, here are the directions:

1. With one or two eggs, depending on the length and volume of your hair, separate the egg whites and egg yolk and beat the separated egg yolks in a clean barter.
2. Add 1 cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the egg mixture and mix well.
3. Add a squeeze of a lemon to the mixture for a refreshing feel for your scalp. Tip: Mix the mask by whisking it with an egg beater.
4. Massage well into scalp, working from the roots to the hair ends, and let it sit for at least fifteen minutes. Cover with a disposable plastic shower cap or you'll have gooey egg mixture everywhere.
5. Using lukewarm or cold water, rinse completely, tackling all spots of your scalp to get rid of egg pieces.
6. Use an organic fruit shampoo to cleanse all of it out of your hair.

2. Go Bananas Hair Mask

Bananas are the best fruits you can find in any season! They are amazing beauty fruits and are super rich in potassium, vitamins, anti-oxidants, and natural oils. This homemade banana hair mask has amazing moisturizing properties, it strengthens hair to prevent breakage and split ends, and helps with maintaining natural hair elasticity as well as making hair appear bouncy and healthy. Here is a list of different ways bananas work for healthy hair:
  • Potassium- for healing damaged dry hair.
  • Vitamin A- strengthens hair follicles as well as nourishing dry hair.
  • Vitamin E- promotes healthy hair and scalp.
  • Vitamin C- for hair oil regulation.
Here are the directions:

1. Blend 2 ripe bananas until they are very smooth. Make sure there are no chunks!
2. Add honey, coconut oil, and olive oil into your banana mixture and blend once again.
3. Apply the smoothie into your scalp and lengths of your hair and let it sink in for at least 5 minutes.
4. Rinse it out thoroughly with lukewarm water. Take time combing through your hair for any chunks of banana (if you didn't blend thoroughly.)
5. You can do a final rinse without the shampoo and conditioner. Your hair will smell delicious!

3. Yo Yogurt! Hair Mask

Yogurt is filled with anti-oxidants, vitamins, and a ton of calcium and protein. Yogurt has moisturizing properties that help with controlling oily, greasy hair by washing away excess oil in the scalp and hair length. It can also be combined with other ingredients like bananas for more hair moisture or strawberries for extra oil control. Here is a list of how yogurt helps with yo hair:
  • Vitamin D- strengthens hair
  • Protein- nourishes the hair roots which stimulates hair growth
Here are the directions:

1. Mix 1/2 cup yogurt, a tsp of apple cider vinegar, and another tsp of honey in a bowl.
2. Apply the mixture to the scalp, working it from the roots to the ends of the hair.
3. Let it sit for at least fifteen minutes before rinsing it out with warm water.
4. Wash your hair once again with an organic fruit shampoo to get rid of the bad smell of the yogurt.

4. Creamy Avocado Hair Mask

Avocados are known for their nourishing and hydrating properties. This homemade avocado hair mask is perfect for those with dry, brittle hair as the avocado helps to revitalize dull, lifeless hair.

Here are the directions:

1. Blend the avocado chunks until you get a very smooth avocado puree with absolutely no lumps.
2. Add the milk and olive oil and mix very well.
3. Apply to your hair starting from the roots to the very tips of your hair.
4. Cover with a hair cap and wait for at least fifteen minutes. Now would be an excellent time for a warm cozy bubble bath (I recommend Lush).
5. Rinse well with warm water. Use your fingers to remove all of the avocado residue.

5. Strawberry Hair Mask

Strawberries are citrus-y fruits that are loaded with vitamin C, which is very nourishing to hair. They are the perfect natural ingredients for oil control. They help rinse away excess oil build-up and are very gentle in doing so. Use strawberries in your homemade hair mask for glossy, shiny hair!

Here are the directions:

1. Blend the ingredients to create a fine puree.
2. Apply the mixture to dampened hair, working from the roots to the tips of your hair.
3. Rinse it well with warm water. You don't even need organic shampoo cause strawberries have their own mouth-watering, delicious smell.

Finally, just remember: the longer you keep the hair mask in, the more effective it will be! With these vitalizing fresh homemade hair masks, your hair is bound to become naturally healthy and beautiful!

Have fun! ---Emily: The Girly Girl Department <3

DIY Natural Remedies to Remove Pimples

Why spend money on expensive cosmetics and products when you can use items at home that work the same, but for a better price! Pimples can be prevented and cured through natural remedies.
There are so many different natural remedies to cure these face demons. While some may be more effective for some, others might have little effect. It's best to try them for yourself to find which remedy works best for you!

Oranges:

Applying orange juice with a cotton swab is an effective remedy to avoid pimples. Alternatively, apply the juice on the affected area and let it do its thing overnight. Make sure that the juice is fresh and doesn't contain any preservatives or it could create rashes on sensitive skin. Dried orange peels can be ground in a mixer and made into a paste by adding some water in it to gently cleanse the face.

Toothpaste:

Putting toothpaste over the pimples will cause them to dry quickly and disappear soon. Use any toothpaste that contains silica. For best results, rub ice over the face before applying the toothpaste and allow the toothpaste to sit on your skin for 30 minutes prior to washing with water. Repeat 2 – 3 times for its best effect.

Baking Soda:

Apply a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice to prevent and cure pimples. This remedy can be used for all types of skin: oily, dry, sensitive or combination. To ensure best results, cleanse the skin before applying the paste and leave it on for 5 minutes. Wash it all off and moisturize your face.

Aloe Vera:

Blend the aloe vera on pimples or pimple-prone skin. Aloe helps remove oil from the skin and makes it soft and healthy. This natural remedy also cures redness and sunburns!

Ice Cubes:

Rubbing ice cubes over the affected area can get rid of pimples quickly. Ice freezes the skin pores and removes excessive oil and dirt that has been trapped in the pores. Ice cubes also reduce swelling and smooths the skin.

Mint Leaves:

Apply mint juice on your pimples! It also helps lighten scars and marks. This step is pretty simple.

Apple Cider Vinegar:

Natural apple cider vinegar regulates the pH level of the skin and helps cure pimples. Add half a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water. Use a Q-Tip or cotton ball to apply it on the affected areas and let it stay overnight. You'll see in the morning how your skin is much smoother!

Honey:

Applying honey over the face helps prevent pimples as well as treats them. Honey contains antibiotics that help reduce inflammation and heals the affected areas. Apply honey and let it sit for 30 minutes and wash with tepid water for healthy, glowing skin!

Oatmeal:

Oatmeal helps remove impurities and acts as a gentle exfoliant that absorbs excess oil and works wonderfully at clearing breakouts. Cook oatmeal like you normally would and let it cool. Apply it on the cleansed face for 10 – 15 minutes. Pat your face dry with a clean face towel and apply a toner and moisturizer.

Garlic:

Rubbing garlic cloves on the skin is very effective for healing pimples as it contains Sulfur, which is anti-septic, anti-oxidant, anti-fungal and anti-viral. Leave the smelly juice on the skin for 5 minutes (if you can stand it) before washing it with water. Repeat the process everyday in order to get faster results.

Now that you know how to treat them, learn how to prevent them here: Pimples Be Gone!

Good luck! ---Emily: The Girly Girl Department <3

Pimples Be Gone!

"I absolutely hate waking up and seeing a pimple on my face. I mean, come on! I wash my face every morning and night, what am I doing wrong?" This is a question I'm pretty sure many of you teenagers have asked yourself. Although you wash your face every morning and night (keep it up) there are many other factors that help your skin become smooth as a baby's butt, just keep reading on!

1. Choose healthier foods!
I know pizza and sodas are the basic foods of life, but the only thing it brings to life are those nasty pimples. The grease in the pizzas that you put in your bodies are adding in unwanted oils into your body, which you guessed it, creates pimples. Some ingredients in the soda may trigger the body to produce a breakout. Yikes!

2. Use makeup sparingly!
During an untimely breakout, try to avoid wearing foundation, concealer, powder, etc. If you choose to wear makeup, remember to wash it all off. There are risks of clogged pores, premature wrinkles, and red skin if you forget.

3. Keep your hair (and hair products) off your face!
Gel, mousse, hair spray; we put so many products in our hair to make it look good, but have you ever considered that your hair products might be causing your pimples? When you style your hair, keep the product off of your skin. And if you find you get acne on your forehead, reconsider having bangs. They cover your forehead and deposit natural hair oils and dead skin cells from the scalp onto your skin. This can clog the pores and leads to breakouts.

4. Watch your ZZzzzzZzzzZ's!
Be sure to frequently change you pillow covers. Bacteria may grow on them, and because we place our heads and face on there, the bacteria will move onto our skin and cause a nasty zit.

5. Hands!
I know almost 99.9% of the population of teenage girls have a habit of placing their hands onto their face - especially in class. Don't do this! This step is so important, but difficult to do. Imagine where your hands have been and then placing it onto your face. Bleh!!!

6. Moisturize!
Many acne products contain ingredients that dry the skin, so always use a moisturizer that minimizes dryness and skin peeling. Look for "noncomedogenic" on the label, which means it should not cause acne.  There are moisturizers made for oily, dry, or combination skin.

7. Too much sun!
A little bit of sun can reduce breakouts, but too much can damage your skin and prompt a breakout. If you’re planning to be out in the sun, be sure to load up on sunscreen and moisturizer – these will help keep your skin hydrated and protected from the harmful sun which will equal less breakouts.

8. Take a chill pill!
Some studies link stress with the causes of pimples or acne. Ask yourself what's making you feel stressed. Then look for solutions on ways to chill.

9. Exercise!
Exercising daily will not only help you look and feel better but it will also help reduce your breakouts. Working out increases the blood flow through the body which will keep your skin looking healthy and radiant. Plus, when you workout, you consume more water and that will definitely help prevent acne breakouts.

10. Hydrate!
Drinking water not only hydrates your skin but it eliminates all of the bad toxins in your body – some of which may have caused earlier breakouts. Consuming around 8 glasses of water a day will keep your skin looking radiant and glowing everyday.

11. Clean your phone!
You dirty fingers have already been touching all over the screen of your phone, and now your pressing it against your face! Remember to clean your phone a few times a week. This is such a simple step to do!

How to Survive Finals

 https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-dwSGfKLfAHBcN8gsfW8HIBRzkDgEEAEvB55c23I35AhtyKIWB-U_g90C3covoIvJR7ptFxlIx81T3nLNg91_Cnhy8xH92mEkei3hXQX2S6oaOKFShZ65yyr72kLeXAa0i-DFMAwbvqbM/s1600/howtosurvivefinals.jpg

Who here likes tests? Not me! I need a survival guide to get through finals. Just follow the steps below and you'll be ready to ace this test.

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR:

1. Be sure to take notes throughout the year- If the test is going to be over everything you learned, it'd be sooo much easier if you wrote down a summary instead of re-reading everything again.

2. Pay attention in class- I know it's difficult to ignore your crush and listen to some boring story of how Columbus found America. But trust me, you're doing you and your crush a favor, because you'll not only know, but understand what is happening.

3. Keep all your tests- Keeping your tests is basically having the key to your test, because all the right answers are right there! And you can quiz yourself with it.

4. Ask teachers for help- If you don't understand something, stay behind for a couple minutes and ask for them to explain! If you think the teacher is going to be annoyed by that, wrong! They're teachers, and they want you to learn, so doing this will make it seem like you really care.

THE WEEK OF THE FINAL:

5. Don't procrastinate- I'm pretty sure everyone does this, I sure do! But the only outcome of this is having less time to study, which means a smaller percentage of acing your finals.

6. Remove all distractions- If your phone is disrupting your study time, give it to someone in your family or put it somewhere outside of your room.

7. Get comfy- It's difficult to study when you don't feel comfortable. I personally find it best to sit at the base of my bed. Make sure you have all of your materials (and food) all set up so you don't have to get up and look around.

8. Take frequent breaks- Study for 1 hour and take a 10 minute break in between. Small breaks like these help me study so it doesn't feel like I'm cramming things into my head.

9. Eat "brain food"- Eat healthier foods like Greek yogurt, fruits, or nuts. I looovveeee to make fruit parfaits. All you have to do is combine Greek yogurt and berries like strawberries and raspberries. I like to add granola bits, but that is completely optional.

10. Have good sleep- If you're only sleeping for only 5 hours, that's a big no-no! You need to have 8 hours of sleep, and at least 7. If you're waking up all zombified, you'll most likely forget some of the material you went through the day before.

11. Learn how you study the best- Some people study differently like some can just read through and memorize everything, and others may have to highlight this and that and take notes. Just find your favorite method and go with it.

12. Study what you don't know- If you already know something, why waste your time and go over that? Just review what you don't know.

THE DAY OF THE TEST:

13. Eat a good breakfast- Don't skip this! You will need the energy for this test.

14. Take mini study sessions- There is probably a couple minutes before class starts, so go over your notes and be sure to look at the parts where you understand the least. This is a very simple thing to do, but very helpful. It can improve your score by a couple points, but hey! A couple points is the difference between an A and a B.

15. Don't rush- this is pretty self explanatory :)

16. Look over your work- Be sure to do this! You don't want this to happen: *Scenario: You get your test back and you realize that you knew the answer but filled in the wrong answer! I should have looked over my work. * Also, sometimes the questions later on will answer one you didn't know before, so be on the look out!

Hopefully, you will take my advice and follow these steps! Not many students have the drive for success, so I hope that you do.

Nail Polish Hacks

I don't know about you, but I like a good mani. I mean, I'm pretty sure everyone does, right? Here are some useful nail polish hacks that will really improve your polishing skills.

1. To dry your nail faster, soak them in ice water.

http://www.brokeandblonde.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/cold-water-nails.jpg

2. Apply a coat of white nail polish to help colors pop!

The pigmentation on your nails may affect the color of the polish. If the polish is already very pigmented, this step is unnecessary.

3. Don't dry your nails with a fan!

You may think it will make your polish dry faster, but it will just create unwanted air bubbles.

4. Use tape and scrapbook scissors to make cool lines and prints!

5. Re-purpose paper hole stickers to paint perfect french manis and half moon designs.

6. Smudged nail? Just readjust it by using the tip of your tongue.

This is so useful! I am NEVER patient and always mess up my nails.

7. Apply lotion or Vaseline onto your cuticles to quickly clean mistakes.

 8. Whiten discolored nails after removing dark nail polish.

Soak your nails in a mixture of hot water, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda for a minute. You could also apply some whitening toothpaste on a toothbrush and scrub the stains off.

9. Paint white craft glue before glitter polish for easy removal.

10. Roll the bottle between your palms instead of shaking it to prevent air bubbles.

11.Soak the stuck lid in hot water.

Be sure to only fill the cup to the part where the lid meets the bottle, because the heat of the water can tamper with the consistency of the polish. Just wait for a couple minutes and ta-da!

12. DIY your own nail dotter tool!

Push sewing pins into the eraser of a pencil and voila! You can use bobbi pins as well.

There you go! Now you know easier ways to apply nail polish and to save money by using tools around the house. Go ahead- paint your nails now!

Ombré Nail Tutorial

Ombré is a very cute and stylish trend. I recently found an amazing (and easy) way to paint this on your nails! Follow these simple and easy steps to achieve this amazing nail look!

Start off with clean nails. You don't want to have left over nail polish on your gorgeous new nails!

For the base, paint your nails white. The colors will show up much better, and it doesn't have to be neat at all, it just has to cover your whole nail.

Choose your colors. Paint them onto a makeup sponge (they are very cheap). I find that painting the darker color first makes the lighter colors turn out more vibrant. Also, be sure to overlap the lighter color(s) with the darker ones. You may have to repeat this step 4-7 times.

Apply top coat. Do not wait for your nails to completely dry! The top coat acts as a blender and makes the colors more "ombré-ish."

Here is the finished look! Clean up any nail polish on your skin with a q-tip and nail polish remover. If you wanted, you could paint palm trees with black nail polish as a silhouette or anything that you like.

I hope this nail polish tutorial helped you! These nails are also great for the summer time, and the colors I chose remind me of the sunset. Make sure to stay tuned for my next blog!
